A unique ecosystem near the village of Vodnyky (Dubivtsi community) has completely dried up.
It has resulted in the loss of one of the most valuable natural complexes with high biodiversity in the upper Dniester Valley.
Until recently, this waterbody served as a habitat for numerous rare hydrophilic bird species, including black tern, great bittern, little bittern, water rails, and others. European pond turtles and protected species of wetland plants of significant conservation value were also found here.
The Starorychysche ecosystem is part of the Halych National Nature Park and is included in the list of internationally important wetlands under the Ramsar Convention (Site No. 2388).
The disappearance of this ecosystem is an alarming sign of environmental degradation and highlights the urgent need for restoration efforts and the preservation of our natural heritage.
