The state of the Dniester basin was discussed in Ivano-Frankivsk

In Ivano-Frankivsk hosted a regular meeting of the Working Groups of the Commission on Sustainable Use and Protection of the Dniester River Basin (the Dniester Commission).
During the meeting, the representatives of the Ukrainian and Moldovan sides discussed:
1. Management plans for the Dniester River Basin in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova;
2. Assessments of chemical and ecological conditions and environmental quality standards for surface water bodies.
They also reviewed the status of implementation of national Flood Risk Management Plans.
The Ukrainian side presented a draft National Report on the State of the Waters of the Ukrainian Part of the Dniester Basin for 2023.
Based on the results of the discussions, the Working Groups reached agreed decisions on the following:
- further synchronization of approaches and methodologies to the preparation of River Basin Management Plans and water monitoring in line with the requirements of European directives;
- conducting a brief-screening of the content of the sections of the national Dniester River Basin Management Plans;
- preparing an analysis of hydropicking (water level fluctuations) downstream of the Dniester Integrated Hydroelectric Power Plant and Dubosar HPP;
- the need for continuous hydrological monitoring and the development of a network of hydrological stations;
- ensuring groundwater monitoring;
- developing proposals to revise the Rules of Operation of the Dniester Integrated Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The Dniester Commission is an intergovernmental cooperation body established in accordance with the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on Cooperation in the Field of Protection and Sustainable Development of the Dniester River Basin.
The working groups maintain and develop dialogue, strengthen institutional cooperation between the countries, and develop coordinated solutions to achieve good water status in the Dniester basin.
