Ivano-Frankivsk region strengthens energy security: development of alternative energy continues

The Ivano-Frankivsk region is actively developing alternative energy, which not only helps to save money but also ensures the region's energy security, especially in times of war.
To date, there have been functionating in the region
- 156 industrial solar power plants (SPPs) with a total capacity of about 300 MW (including 24 new SPPs commissioned in 2024);
- 5,290 private SPPs (Ivano-Frankivsk region is the third in region Ukraine in this regard) with a total capacity of over 137 MW;
- 1 wind power plant (WPP) with a capacity of 6.4 MW;
- 4 bioenergy plants with a total capacity of 2 MW;
- 5 small hydropower plants (HPPs) with a total capacity of 3,705 MW.
The total capacity of alternative energy sources in Ivano-Frankivsk region has reached 412.5 MW. In addition, new 9 MW of capacity is planned to be commissioned in 2025 9 МВтwhich will require more than EUR 15 million in investments.

The largest alternative electricity generation capacities are located in the following communities:
Ivano-Frankivsk - 70 MW;
- Tysmenytsia - 26 MW;
- Halytch - 21 MW;
- Zabolotiv - 15 MW;
- Yezupil - more than 10 MW;
- Nadvirna - 10 MW;
- Rohatyn - 9.5 MW;
- Sniatyn - 8.3 MW;
- Obertyn - 7.3 MW.
Ivano-Frankivsk region is the third region in Ukraine in terms of the number of private solar power plants. In 2024, the following were commissioned in the region 970 new private SPPs, what demonstrates the active participation of citizens in meeting their own energy needs.
