Protected Areas of Ivano-Frankivsk Region: Building a Catalog of Nature Conservation Areas Together with Communities

The environmental organization “Our Home – Manyava” has started developing an open catalogue of protected areas in Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
The aim of the initiative is to make information about the region’s nature conservation areas more understandable and accessible to communities, educators, young people, journalists and local residents.
Recently, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration reported on discussions with communities regarding the development of the ecological network, the inventory of natural areas, the establishment of boundaries for protected areas, and the strengthening of their protection. This once again confirms the importance of open, clear, and accessible information about the region’s nature conservation areas.
In many communities, people know their unique natural places well: springs, forests, old parks, wetlands, river valleys, cliffs, and other valuable sites. Our task is to help connect this local knowledge with open data and explain the natural, educational, cultural, and ecosystem value of these places.
In the catalogue, we will gradually publish information about protected areas, including their name, category, general location, brief description, local names or stories, possible ecosystem services, and links to open sources.
The project is implemented with safety considerations in mind. We do not collect photos, exact coordinates or routes. We ask participants to provide only general information about the natural site.
If there is a natural site in your community that is important for people, nature, history or local memory, please share this information with us.
Information about a natural site can be shared through a short form:

It will take only a few minutes, and your information will help make the natural heritage of communities more visible and valuable for the whole Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
At the first stage, we plan to collect information on at least 50 protected areas or valuable natural sites in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region and prepare the first information cards for the website.
